Alleluia. Behold, I announce to you a great joy; for to us is born today the Savior of the world, who is Christ. Behold, born to us today is the angel of counsel, behold, born to us today is the father of the world to come, behold, born to us today is the Prince of Peace, Who is Christ. Alleluia. Listen, for there was a multitude of the heavenly host, praising and saying, “Glory to the infant, who is Christ.” See how the shepherds run to adore the virgin’s child, who is Christ. So come, you peoples, let us adore the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in the manger, let us adore the infant who is Christ. So come, you peoples, with me, hurry; and with your breath warm the delicate limbs of the baby boy, who is Christ.

Tears of mine, why do you hold back, why don’t you wash away the pain which takes my breath and crushes my heart? Lidia, whom I adore, Because she gave me a pitying glance, Has been imprisoned by her severe father. The innocent girl is locked up within walls Which the sun’s rays cannot penetrate, And what pains me most, And increases my torment, Is that I am the cause of my beloved’s suffering. And you, my eyes, are not weeping! Tears of mine, why do you hold back? Alas, how I miss my Lidia, my idol, I love so much! She is shut up within marble walls and I sigh but I do not die! If death might be granted to me now that I have no hope, take my life, (I beg of you) oh my sufferings! But I am well aware that in order to torture me even more. Fate even denies me death, it is true then, oh God, that destiny desires only my tears.

Text and English Translation O pretiosum, o salutiferum, o admirabile convivium! Quis exprimere sufficit hujus sacramenti suavitatem, per quod spiritalis dulcedo in suo fonte gustatur ? Ah! nullus sufficit, fulcite me floribus, stipate me mali, ecce præ dulcedine deficit, virtus mea, ecce languet anima mea amoreet desiderio Jesus ! O precious, salutory, marvelous banquet! Who can describe the sweetness of the sacrament, causing every heavenly delicacy to be savored at its source. Ah, no one can! Support me with flowers, Provide me with apples, how such sweetness makes me faint, how my soul begins to languish with love and desire for Jesus!

Text and English Translation O Maria quam pulchra es, quam suavis, quam decora, quam pulchra es. Tegit terram sicut nebula lumen ortum indeficiens flamma ignis arca sederis inter spinas ortum lilium. Tronum sion in Altissimis in columna nubis positum. O Maria quam pulchra es, quam suavis, quam decora, quam pulchra es. Ante sæcula creata girum cœli circuivit sola profundum abissi penetravit et in fluctibus maris ambulavit omnium corda virtute calcavit et in hereditate Domini morata est. Tegit terram sicut nebula lumen ortum indeficiens flamma ignis arca federis inter spinas ortum lilium. Tronum sion in Altissimis in columna nubis positum. O Maria quam pulchra es, quam suavis, quam decora, quam pulchra es. Alleluia. English Translation O Mary, how lovely you are, how sweet, how beautiful, how lovely you are. She covers the earth like a cloud, a risen light, unfailing, a flame of fire, the ark of the new covenant, a lily among thorns. The throne of Sion on high is placed on the heights of this cloud. O Mary, how lovely you are, how sweet, how beautiful, how lovely you are. Begotten before time, she has circled the arc of heaven on her own, she has plunged into the depths of hell, and she has walked among the waves of the sea. She has conformed the hearts of all to her virtue, and she delights in the heritage of the Lord. Alleuia.
